The Blueberry Festival is Back with Live Music and Much More !

Last year saw changes to the way many things were done. The Blueberry Festival as we know it was one of the many local events that felt the effects of the pandemic. As we move closer and closer to what was “normal”, the 34th annual Blueberry Festival is back in full force. There are many things to see and do at the festival this year. You’ll find local craft beers, wines and spirits in the Brewery Tasting Tent. Your $25 ticket gains you admission to the festival, a souvenir tasting glass and 5 tastings (advance sales – day of tickets get you 4 tastings). You can also purchase your favorites separately. There will also be pie-eating contests, children’s activities, a dessert tent, crafts and much, much more. And, of course, live music on two different stages throughout the day both days. As you may have guessed by now, I’m here to talk about the music.

There will be live performances from many local artists on both stages throughout the weekend and Saturday’s performances will be capped with the Blueberry Jam Acoustic Open Mic presented by Voices of the Valley and hosted by myself at 5pm on the Brewery Stage. Registration for the open mic is still open but, there are a limited number of spots available. You can register at rpaganomusic@gmail.com or through messenger at https://www.facebook.com/lvvoicesofthevalley. Here’s your complete music lineup:

Headeye – The Next Chapter

Several months ago, when I took a quick look into Headeye’s ongoing project, I described it as Yes meets Frank Zappa and Warren Zevon. That much has not changed. I introduced the first few couple singles (and the “B” sides) from the CD – “Earth Girls”. “Facebook Booty Call” and “Ja Aber Nein” gave you a pretty good preview of what was to come. Well, the full CD is here now. It has actually been out for a couple months and, shame on me for not getting this out sooner.

“Earth Girls” is a full-length, 13-song album with a wide range of very interesting and entertaining music that steps well outside the main stream. If you haven’t taken the time to listen yet, there’s no better time than the present. The album features different mixes and a little different flow on the aforementioned singles and is a real treat if you’re looking for something new and different to listen to. Put on the headphones or pop in the ear buds and crank it up nice and loud, then kick back and enjoy.

So, what’s next ? A vinyl package is tentatively scheduled for release some time in June with a target date of Record Store Day. The package is available for pre-order now at http://www.headeye.org. There’s lots of goodies to go along the vinyl like stickers, posters and a USB stick full of bonus cuts from the project. If you order the full package now, you’ll get it all – vinyl, CD, USB stick and digital download. You will have every version of every song – and then some. Also on the horizon is a series of live performances in conjunction with Touchstone Theater. Next Saturday, June 19, They will be doing a special “test run” event in front of family, friends and invited guests. There will then be two live performances planned of August and October that will be open to the public. Stay tuned for dates. And, while they are hard at work on the next album, the final chapter in this story has not yet been written. There’s more to come and we’ll talk about that in the next chapter. In the meantime, get to the website, listen to this amazing production, pre-order the full package and get more of the story (so far).

If you want to get to know the man behind the project, Jason Hedrington, you can tune in to one (or all) of his weekly shows on Facebook and Intagram. Saturday Night Shenanigans airs weekly at 9pm and Afternoon Delight is every Tuesday and Wednesday at 1:11pm.

Weekly Music Lineup – 6/10/21

From the Poconos to Bucks County, from Phillipsburg to Reading and, everywhere in between, things are opening up more & more. That means more opportunities to find the live music you’re looking for at a venue we know you’ll love. It’s all right here and, the choices are all yours. If you haven’t taken a few minutes to read this weekly post, now is a great time to start – and share it with your friends. It’s a slightly longer read than normal but, that’s because it’s filled with music. There are carnivals, festivals and special events PLUS all the usual live music spots and some new ones.

Ben Tyler Covers Petty and the Result is Amazing !

Ben Tyler is a very gifted songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. If you have followed him at all, you know he has given us some great music to listen to. No need to look any further than his 2020 single, “Daughter of Mine” to get a feel for his talent. Some songwriters possess the unique ability to take another artist’s song and make it their own with incredible results. Ben is one of those songwriters.

Let’s face it, we’ve heard many hit songs over the years that were covered by other artists and the tendency is to say “Yeah, but the original was better”. And, in many cases, that is true. Every now and then, someone takes a song and completely transforms it in a way that stops you in your tracks. This is one of those times. While changing the dynamics and adding a little twist and turn, the song remains completely recognizable yet, totally new and different at the same time. This is a refreshing new take on Tom Petty’sI Won’t Back Down“.

Of course, when you get a little help from your friends, it makes the finished product that much more special. Recorded locally and produced by Jason Reif of Freestone Productions, Ben was surrounded by some of the areas best musicians that helped him bring the whole project together. Anthony Cubbage (drums, electric guitar, mandolin), Neil Grover (acoustic guitar) and Nicholas Capozzolo (bass guitar) were all major contributors. Jason Reif added some electric guitar and organ as well as background vocals that were right on point.

So, where can I hear this amazing cover of Tom Petty’s popular hit ? Well, it’s on it’s way. “I Won’t Back Down” drops on all major platforms this Friday, June 11. You can pre-save it now at https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/bentyler/i-wont-back-down. Don’t sleep on this one. Click that link and be sure to listen the minute it drops. Then, listen again and again. You won’t be disappointed.
