As we wave goodbye to 2020, there is very little to report in the way of live music. At the end of the day, that’s probably not a bad thing. While many of us struggle in one way or another with very few places to do what we do at the moment, others are much less fortunate. Yesterday, we said goodbye to Paul Greig and there are several other musicians in the area and beyond fighting the battle with the virus. When I established Voices of the Valley eighteen months ago, my goal was to support local music AND the venues that provide us with a place to play. That has not changed and it never will. I will continue to share the information given me and do my best to promote whatever it is you are doing. I will continue to ask you, as fellow musicians, to support each other in any way you can. I will also encourage you to support the many local venues that host live music on a regular basis. Many of them are struggling to stay open with carry-out and delivery their only way to generate income. They could all use our support right now.
As we flip the calendar to 2021, I will continue posting a weekly music lineup every Thursday. This is NOT limited to live performances. If you are performing virtually during the pandemic or appearing on an on-line show of any kind, feel free to let me know and I will share it. I will also continue my monthly Spotify playlist and, beginning in January, I will add a monthly YouTube playlist to my regular schedule. I am encouraging anyone with original music to send me links to either site to be included on a playlist. I will try to highlight new music first but, will gladly share anything you have, old or new. The playlists are open to anyone who has original music to share, regardless of genre. I have also written an occasional song and/or album review and would be happy to do that for you, if you would like. In fact, I would like to do more of that in 2021.
There are several ways to get your information to me. You can use the “contact us” form on the website, Facebook messenger – https://www.facebook.com/lvvoicesofthevalley – or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Many of you already do this on a weekly or monthly basis and, for that, I thank you. You do not have to be a musician to provide me with information. If you are a venue manager or owner, please share your schedule with me and I will publish it. Again, several of you already do and I thank you. One last thing before I get to the music.
You may notice the term “HOT SPOTS” is missing from the title and the cover photo. In June of 2019, with my first weekly post, the term seemed to fit. In light of the current situation, that term has taken on a whole new meaning and is no longer appropriate. As of this writing I will no longer use that term in any of my posts. I have also removed the word “live” as I will begin to promote virtual performances as well. There are many ways we can still support each other while the “live” music scene has come to a crawl. You can buy music or merchandise, stream your favorite artists on line, tune in to a virtual performance and use the virtual tip jar to show some support and follow them on social media. Hopefully, one day soon, we’ll get back to “normal”. Now, for the music.
