This time every year the city of Bethlehem comes alive to the sound of music. Musikfest takes over and provides a little something for everyone from August 2-11. But, what about First Friday on the Southside ? Can I still find live music there ? Are there any specials going on ? Can I get my mug filled at any of the bars/restaurants ? The answer to all of these questions is yes.
The live music schedule may be a little “watered down” for this edition of First Friday but, there’s still an opportunity to hear some really good music at some great locations. You’ll hear the Timoteo Blues Implosion at EZ Money (20 W.4th St) from 5-6:30pm. Enjoy free refreshments there from 5-6pm and 15% off laptops for back to school. Then swing on by Molly’s Irish Grille and Sports Pub (4th & New Sts) and enjoy live music by Brian Kibler starting at 6pm, free appetizers at the bar from 5-7pm and $4 Irish drafts. Get your mug filled while you are here and stop back later for DJ Chubby at 10. Fox Optical (28 E.3rd St) will feature live Hawiian-style gypsy jazz music from Sonanto from 6-9pm. You can grab a late bite to eat and enjoy a Grateful Dead tribute from Jon Fadam & Gonzo project at Southside 313 (313 E.3rd St) starting at 9pm and there’s always late-night fun at the Funhouse Southside with Trouble City All Stars capping off your evening starting at 10pm.
As you can see, there’s still a lot happening on the Southside. In addition to the live music, you’ll find special deals at A-List Salon (128 W.4th St), Bonn Place Brewing (310-14 Taylor St), Color Me Mine (25 E.3rd St), Eva’s Bargain Boutique (412 E. 4th St) and Molinari’s (322 E.3rd St). So, as you make your way to or from Musikfest, stop by and visit our merchants on the Southside that bring you First Friday every month. For more information, visit the Southside Arts District on Facebook or http://southsideartsdistrict.com. Of course, we couldn’t do all this without our sponsors, Arts Quest, Comfort Suites Bethlehem and Lehigh University.
